The Entretiens arts et société are returning to Place des Arts with a new host: Rose-Aimée Automne T. Morin!
A series of free get-togethers before an audience around topical issues that resonate
Montreal, January 9, 2025 — The Entretiens arts et société, organized by Place des Arts, are back with four new public get-togethers. The host – author, scriptwriter and La Presse columnist Rose-Aimée Automne T. Morin – takes over hosting duties to delve into subjects that don’t get talked about enough.
Each one of the encounters will revolve around a question that players from various, social, cultural and sometimes academic spheres will have to deliberate on. As they share their point of view, they’ll be attempting to respond to that question not just individually but collectively as well.
Guests with a difference
Sarah-Maude Beauchesne, François Létourneau, Alice Pascual – full professor at UQÀM’s Department of Sexology – Julie Lavigne, Elkahna Talbi, Sophie Fouron, Chris Bergeron, and psychologist, author and Université de Montréal researcher Rachida Azdouz will be among the initial guests of Rose-Aimée Automne T. Morin as the year gets under way.
Drawing on shows in the program at Place des Arts and on topical issues that resonate with society, the chosen themes will open up dialogues with the participation of the audience.
Presented at Salon urbain from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., the Entretiens arts et société invite you to remake the world and to reflect on society in a relaxed yet lively setting.
“Our discussions offer a unique space for reflection, open to all, designed for the sharing and exchanging of ideas on hot topics in a laid-back atmosphere that encourages interaction,” explains Clothilde Cardinal, Director of Programming, Place des Arts.
A foretaste of the January discussions
Are we getting the sex scenes we deserve in 2025?
January 23 | Salon urbain from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. - Free (booking recommended: General Admission | Place des Arts)
What we see on our screens and onstage fuels the collective imagination. In 2017, the #metoo movement completely overturned the way intimacy and sexuality are represented in artistic spheres. Collectively, we’ve defined the gray areas of consent, created a space for non-heteronormative relationships and given greater prominence to female roles and voices in our cultural products. But is that enough? Are we getting the sex scenes we deserve in 2025?
As someone who’s dealt extensively with feminism and sexuality in her works, author, screenwriter, host and actor Sarah-Maude Beauchesne has been invited to unpack the question. She’ll be accompanied by her colleague, author and actor François Létourneau, known for major TV successes in Québec that depict the ills of our society with an intelligent and distinct sense of humor. A talented actress who’s been part of numerous theatrical, movie and television productions, Alice Pascual will join them to talk about acting. Then, historian and full professor at UQÀM’s Department of Sexology, Julie Lavigne will share her research dealing with the representation of sexuality in contemporary art.
Diversity and inclusion: when do we take or give up our place?
January 30 | Salon urbain from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. – Free (booking recommended: General Admission | Place des Arts)
We talk a lot about the inclusion and diversity essential to the vitality of our culture and our society... But how do we go about multiplying voices? On the one hand, we invite people to take their rightful place. On the other, some people have to learn to give up theirs. How do we know which posture to adopt?
A multitalented artist, Elkahna Talbi, also known by the name Queen Ka, has carved out her place on the cultural map with poetic performances, numerous roles on television and in the theater, and in directing as well. She’ll be discussing diversity and inclusion with Sophie Fouron, a TV host who can be seen over TV5 and ARTV/RC, along with novelist and lecturer Chris Bergeron. Author, psychologist and researcher at Université de Montréal’s Intercultural Relations Research Laboratory, Rachida Azdouz will join them to provide a portrait of the Québec intercultural scene, which she’s been studying for close to 30 years.

About Place des Arts de Montréal
The purpose of Société de la Place des Arts de Montréal is to operate a company that presents the performing arts, to administer Place des Arts de Montréal and the Amphithéâtre Fernand-Lindsay in Joliette, and to establish the artistic programming at Maison symphonique for organizations other than the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal. These activities are to be conducted, more specifically, so as to provide a residence for major arts organizations, to improve access to the various types of performing arts, and to promote arts and culture in Québec. The Société hosts artistic works originating in Québec or elsewhere, featuring both emerging artists and international stars, in collaboration with artistic organizations, producers, creators, and the entire cultural community.
Located in the heart of the Quartier des spectacles and the city, Place des Arts also welcomes works of art within its walls, on its Esplanade, in its exhibition hall, and projects digital works on its mosaic of screens.
